About Us

We are rideshare drivers, driving on Uber and Lyft and many other platforms, who are building our own organization to fight for the dignity of our work and better lives.

Our History

Since the day we started driving and realized how exploitative the rideshare companies can be, we have all been organizing: finding other drivers for support, sharing strategies to earn better money, and taking collective action.

The seeds of Rideshare Drivers United started when drivers took a big pay cut and organized two strikes at LAX in August, 2017. Many of us stood together, but it was clear that in order to win with these mega tech companies, we needed to build a much larger and stronger organization of drivers, and to develop a strategic plan to win a real voice on the job, fair pay, and dignity to the work we do.

Building a Drivers Organization: for the drivers, by the drivers

In 2018 we formed Rideshare Drivers United, and started building power, driver to driver, to fight for the dignity of our profession and to ensure we have a real say over our working conditions in rideshare.

How?

We are supported by grants and member donations and will never take money from rideshare companies to build our organization.

Our Principles - We believe:

1. By organizing together, rideshare drivers have the power to transform their work and the rideshare industry, from worker exploitation to worker dignity and fairness.
2. Rideshare drivers are a conscious part of a vibrant social movement to positively transform the larger gig economy and will work with other like-minded organizations to build this movement.
3. At the heart of our struggle, workers must build their own organizations and ensure their own voice in the fight for fairness and justice in the new economy.

What we stand for:

Dignity – We treat each other with respect, and demand the same treatment from employers.
Democracy – With many voices, we operate transparently, building a democratic organization with democratic decision-making.
Unity and Diversity – We stand together, united, with respect for our diversity in every aspect, and our many voices as a unified force for justice and fairness.
Equity – All for one and one for all - members realize an equal share of our victories and successes.
Solidarity – we work together with groups with shared values towards common goals.
